Not so much deducted,as charged.Many sellers add in 1p listings to gain good feedback,get people to buy some of there more expensive items or simply to qualify for discounts.They make a loss but at the same time can gain if that makes sense

Admittedly 10% of 1p will be difficult to collect.

 

However paypal fees are based on the total transaction, including postage. There is also a fixed fee of 20p per transaction.

 

This type of selling can be used to build up feedback.

 

Sadly some private sellers seem unaware that they are selling at a loss.
