Can I end an auction early?
Aug 17, 2012 04:37 AM

Hello everyone

Please help me with a dilemma. It is a genuine one.

I made a mistake out of stupidity and did not sell an item to a buyer. Their paypal address was different to the address they asked me to send it out to. But the buyer returned to me and asked again and it is a genuine case, you know it when they approach you.

Anyway I was ridden with guilt, so I thought I would let them bid again and I promised them that I would put it up for just one day. However I received some strange message asking me to sign up to paypal (I have a paypal account and actually accept only paypal payments) and apparently I couldn't put anything for one day auction. So I contacted the buyer and said that I would put it for three days. I increased the delivery charges with the hope that no one else would bother with it. I also promised to refund most of it once they receive the item because after inconveniencing her I just cannot get myself to accept anything but the delivery charge.

Anyway there are three people watching the item and I am worried if someone would bid.

So can I end the auction and send them an invoice? I put it up for bidding only because it is againts ebay rules to settle it out of ebay. will ebay let me end the auction early and let me send a payment invoice?

Or if that isn't possible, would I be able to remove anyone who bids until the last minute? Or if I didn't see the final bid, can I just send a second chance offer to this bidder and let the next bidder know of my sad predicament I am in? I have only one piece unfortunately.

Please advise me what to do. Thank you

make sure you start price is the agreed price

ask the buyer to bid then end selling to highest bidder

http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?EndingMyAuction

you could have avoided all this

buyers can add another address to their shipping info and select when going via checkout

when they pay the address will come up for shipping on paypal

as you don't use tracking you have no seller protection so end of the day doesn't matter where you post  because you will always lose item not received without it

Thank you.

If I click on end auction early, then how will the buyer pay? Would they get an invoice?

when they have bid click on end listing early then you have 2 options

one to end and one to sell to highest bidder

select the second one

then they just go through checkout as normal

Yes, you should click on end auction, then you get a choice, maKe sure at this stage to select Sell item.

Once you have done that the item goes into your sold section as normal and you send payment details as you would in any other sale.
