Can we get some petrol money back from seller on a wasted journey (444 miles) as item bought was not 'excellent condition' as listed?

We drove 444 miles round trip to collect a large 'vintage' pram simply listed as in 'excellent condition'. Unfortunately it has several various sized dents, numerous scratches, paint flaking, some rusting, a cracked handle, split in a wheel tyre, wheel hubs missing and the brake didn't work. There had been no mention of any of these in the listing or shown in the photographs (might have picked up lack of wheel hubs if photo’s had been bigger/better/up the right way). She seemed a nice lady who basically said what do you expect in an old pram. We said we expected defects & condition to be listed as required by Ebay but she maintained that in her eyes it was in 'excellent condition’. We refused to pick it up & found that she had refunded us the purchase cost via PayPal before we arrived home. Do we have any means of claiming back some of the petrol money (over £80) for what was a wasted journey based on her very wrong and, as it turned out, misleading description?

Do we have any means of claiming back some of the petrol money

No, none at all.

There's always a risk that items may not be as described. People's ideas of what constitutes "excellent condition" can and does vary.

You took a big risk making a round trip of 444 miles to collect it - it must have been some pram! Sorry that it didn't work out, but that's life.

I would be livid too, but you have no recourse to get your money back.

in sellers opinion, the item was in excellent condition and i guess she is entitled to that opinion. your are entitled to yours.

i know this doesnt help now, but next time, make sure you buy locally. then you can walk away with as much loss.

good luck x
